I also tested the video signal, but I don't have much to reference it to (the manual I have doesn't give a good example what the waveform should look like). I wish there was a circuit I could breadboard to adapt the PET video cable into composite or some other video output so I could test on an external monitor (if that kind of circuit exist for a 8032 ntsc pet or similar please let me know). The start up screen is still scrambled and has random misplaced characters at the bottom (see the images at the end for details). Perhaps this is one of the good things about the current situation we find ourselves in?! There are a lot of broken PETs coming out for repair. If this is one of those machines that can be configured for 40 or 80 columns - I wonder if someone has played with the links?Ĭan you tell us the part number on the main logic board please.

#COMMODORE SIDPLAY CODE#
I agree with Nivag that there may be a couple of problems here.Įntering TIM (the machine code monitor) may indicate a problem with ROM or RAM or some of the I/O devices. It would be interesting to see the screen exactly as it is on a power-up please (without typing anything on the keyboard). The two 'halves' of the screen are not identical - so they are not being duplicated. It doesn't look like a CRTC error to me though. That way, someone locally to you (same State or Country) may be able to help out. It may also be useful to add your location to your profile so that other VCFED members can see which part of the world you are in. You will be moderated for your first 10 (or so) posts, so we need to proceed slowly at first to save overwhelming you with posts and missing yours when they are moderated. If anyone has any info or educated guesses on what the problem would be I would be very appreciative. I have lots of electronics tools if you know of any test circuits or tests I could run on it (oscilloscope, multimeter, lcr meter, ect.). I have a bit of experience in old computer repair (I spent 80+ hours fixing a Kaypro II drive issue). I found a few diagnostic boards that replace the ram and roms (like this one ), If you think it would help please let me know. I've ordered some replacement 2114 video ram chips, I'm not sure that's the issue, but I figured I would replace them anyways. I also tested the horizontal and vertical drive signals and both tested good according to the technical manuals. I checked the adjustment knobs on the crt display and it didn't change the display problems. It sends a scrambled message every time I try to enter a command or try to load from cassette. The video is scrambled and also duplicated, but I am able to type on the keyboard and it does show up on the screen. I have recently bought a Commodore CBM 8032 with a video display issue (see the pictures attached for more detail).
